Simple Composting Process of Feedlot Manures

Soil-Life can utilize any type of manures for composting. For example, the following can be used to convert feedlot manure into compost

  1. Dissolve molasses in the water(1 :100). It is easily dissolved in warm water.
  2. Add Soil-Life into the above prepared molasses solution (usually 1:1 Soil-Life /molasses)
  3. Spray the Soil-Life mixture onto the manure and mix well. Please spray the Soil-Life dilution gradually and mix well while checking the moisture content. There should be no drainage of excess water. The moisture content should be about 30-40%. You can check it by squeezing a handful. Once squeezed, it should remain as a single unit without crumbling. However, on touching it should crumble easily.
  4. If the mixture is not sufficiently wet enough there may be excess heat produced which can cause internal combustion and your heap will start to smoulder. If this happens you will need to dismantle the heap and start again with extra water.
  5. Once mixed with a front-end loader or substitute then push the mixture into a heap.
  6. Spray the heap of manure with water to seal the heap and do not disturb for 3-4 weeks.
  7. At the end of this time the heap should be white through in colour containing a very high level of microbial activity.
  8. This can be spread onto the soil and worked in for the final composting process to finish.
  9. This process should be done well in advance of the cropping program to allow the natural process to complete.
  10. If this process is left for several months the product will become a sweet smelling stabilized humus.
  11. The rate is 20 litres of Soil-Life to 50 tonne of manure
  12. Equates to $2.50 per tonne to turn manure into compost.
